STEP for Physics laboratory experience Student contributions with STEP

Our group is deeply committed to public education and outreach, promoting scientific literacy in the Houston area and the country in general. Dr Morrison is co-director of the STEM Teaching Equity Project for Physics, which provides training for local high school physics teachers with limited training in Physics. An intensive two-week summer program and weekly sessions in the Fall semester bring faculty from the University of Houston together with teachers to experience an inquiry based style of teaching they can bring directly to their classrooms. Faculty from the department volunteer to teach the three-hour hands on sessions, with group members serving as support volunteers during the training and lab tours. As of this year, STEP for physics have worked with physics teachers who impacted over 30,000 local high school students.
